Anascaul Salvage A Point

Thursday Division 2

Red Bull Anascaul were two points clear of Panathieastcork at the top of the table entering this weeks matches, so a win against bottom team Men United was critical to maintain their position at the top. However the Anascaul lads played very poorly by their standards in the first half and found themselves trailing 3-0 at half time. Dan Gallagher kept his cool and rounded The Red Bull Keeper to score a terrific goal to put Men United one up after ten minutes. Not long later Steve Crowley scored with a superb header and just before half time Mick Ryan scored a rocket after receiving a great pass from Padraig O Riordan. Red Bull regrouped after half time and dominated the second half and when they equalised with ten minutes remaining it looked like they would eventually take the three points. However Men United held on for a draw.

The Sons Of Pitches, who still have title aspirations, took on The Whitfords this week. Cormac Crowley scored a great early goal for The Pitches after a great turn and shot into the corner. The score remained 1-0 until half time. Berie Bateman who is having a marvellous season for the Whitfords was always a handful and scored two goals in the second half to dent The Pitches’ title hopes.

Thursday Division 1

Go With The Flow conceded two bad early goals during their encounter with The Thirtysomethings which proved very costly as there were only two goals separating the sides in the end. Shane O Donoghue was outstanding for The Thirtys and scored a fine hat trick while Stuart Howard and Alan Moreland were terrific for Go With The Flow.

Steve Dwyer was the star man for Ezy in their match against Ex Pats Athletic. He scored six of his teams eight goals.

Wednesday Division 1

The Tools and Booze Crew tie lived up to expectations and produced lots of quality and skill ending in a 5-3 win for the Tools. Colin Hammond’s finishing  was superb with 2 late goals for the Tools. Kevin Murphy was also excellent in midfield for the Tools and made it 3-3 mid way through the 2^nd half with an excellent strike.

Racing Club had Edward Noonan in their midfield and Fergal Lynch in defence in flying form, as they overcame the Chancers 3-1. Jason O Connell replied late on for the Chancers to make the scoreline more respectful.

Wednesday Division 2

The 6 man team of Novartis produced a battling but quality performance to beat Douglas Mortgage to finally put an end to their title chances. Pat Crotty was excellent and scored twice for Novartis. Hit and Miss stay in contention with a 6-2 win over Balaga Tonga. CUH did likewise and can still oust The Baggios as they play them in the final game next Wednesday where the winner will take the title. CUH are 3 points behind Baggios but a win will be enough to secure their 2^nd footy title as they are ahead on the head to head having won 4-2 earlier in the season.

Cuban Priests, Tools Thriller Ends In Draw

Wednesday Div 1

The Tools and the Cuban Priests played out one of the hardest fought games in recent Footy history and it ended all square, a fair 1-1 draw.

Both teams played at a very high intensity and there was some quality football by both sides. Defender Ross Flood was best for the Priests and his ability to read the game got his side out of trouble on a few occasions. He also popped up with the equalising goal with a well struck free kick to cancel out Michael Doody’s first half opener for the Tools.

This draw was the result that the Booze Crew were looking for as they earlier had lost out on the chance to go top of the table after a surprise loss to Racing Club. However with 3 games to go, and the Priests leading by 2 points, any one of these 3 sides could win it.

James O’Sullivan scored a hatrick for Racing as they produced their best performance of the season to beat an under strength Booze Crew side.

Wednesday Div 2

Novartis played the best they played all season and had an excellent 3-1 win, coming from behind to beat CUH. The Wilton lads might regret this defeat, as they are only 2 point behind the Baggios and must still play them in the last game of the season. Ronan Cullinane was brilliant for Novartis and scored 2 cracking goals.

Douglas Mortgage took all 3 points, as expected over the struggling Avengers. Eric Cotter was again amongst the goals for Douglas. The leaders, the Baggios had another good win to stay top of the pile, beating Balaga Tonga 7-4. The game highlight was a great goal from Baggios keeper Daniel Lynch who scored from his own area with a beautifully struck chip.

Wednesday Div 3

The tie between Reardons and Real Soso Bad was a close affair, finishing 5-4 to Reardons. Despite a brilliant solo effort from Stephen O’Riordain for Real, Reardons had just about enough in the tank to hold off Real after a double from both Philip Sweetman and Tom Long.

 The Average Joes had to use all their experience in beating Dynamo Tonduff. The scoring machine that is Eric Montgomery, was again used to good effect, scoring twice and proved the difference between the sides.

Lennons Lemmons also play their best football of the season to beat a strong Crystal Fallace side 4-2. A hatrick and a superb display by well known Hockey player Andrew Daunt saw off Fallace. Perhaps he should consider switching to soccer after some of his recent high quality performances at Footy.

Sub Standard Liege had a hard earned 4-3 win over FC Coping Badly. They were 2-1 up at half time only to concede twice and looked like losing only to battle hard in the last 10 minutes and earn all 3 points. John O Brien was best for Coping Badly while Kevin Heelin and Pat Coleman were on form for Liege. 

CUH Win Top Of Table Clash

Wednesday Division 2

Old rivals and joint table toppers CUH and douglasmortgage.ie faced off in what could be the decisive match of the campaign. Both teams had numerous chances but it was CUH who converted. Ivan Weir scored two superb goals for CUH and when Denis Mahony scored a third it looked like the fixture was decided. However two late goals by Erik Cotter gave Douglas some hope entering the final five minutes, but CUH held out for a deserved win. This win puts CUH firmly in the driving seat entering the final few matches.

The Nualight, Balaga Tongo match was deadlocked at 0-0 at half time. However the second half was a much livelier affair. Bernard Ahern of Nualight scored two fine goals as did Dave Doyle for Balaga. It was looking like the final result would be a 4-4 draw until Kieran Buckley scored a dramatic last minute winner for Nualight.

Joe Herrity was the man of the match in The Avengers, Novartis encounter, however his team lost 5-2. Roy McCarthy and Erik Lynch were among the scorers for Novartis while Herrity and Conor long scored for The Avengers.

Wednesday Division 3

The Average Joes started their top of the table clash with Substandard Liege in spectacular fashion when they scored an excellent goal by Erik Montgomery after two minutes. The Joes were completely on top in the first half. Montgomery was a threat every time he got the ball and Joe O Sullivan was outstanding in defence. They were worth their 4-0 lead entering the final 20 minutes. However slowly but surly Substandard began to get a grip on the match and with five minutes remaining there was only a single goal separating the sides. In the closing minutes both the goal frame and a heroic keeper came to The Joes aid as they just held on to win 4-3.

The Dynamo Tonduff, FC Coping Badly match was a thriller. The score was 4-3 in favour of Coping as the final whistle approached. However Dave murphy finished off a man of the match performance and a hat trick for Tonduff by scoring the equaliser in the last minute. John O Brien scored twice for coping.

John Mangan was outstanding for Crystal Fallice in their match against Real Sosobad and contributed 2 marvellous goals to his sides 3-0 win. 

Wednesday Division 1

The top of the table encounter between The Booze Crew and The Cuban Priests was expected to be a thriller and it didn’t disappoint. This was a high tempo match with both teams attacking at every opportunity. The score was tied at 3-3 with three minutes to go when Mark Murphy outjumped the Booze Crew goal keeper to give his team a 4-3 lead with a sensational header. However The Priests joy was very short lived as The Booze  Crews Ian Stapleton equalised with a super strike right at the end of the match. A draw was a fair result and keeps both teams in contention.

The other title contenders in this division had an easy 7-0 win against The Chancers. Michael Doody was outstanding and contributed 4 goals. 

All Blacks Stretch Lead

Thursday Division 1

The All Blacks continued their tremendous form this season with a convincing 6-2 win against a strong Go With The Flow side. Rob Healy and Brian Murphy scored two fine goals for the Blacks in the first half to give them a 2-0 lead at the interval. However Vinny Motherway ran the show in the second half and scored twice to help the Rochestown lads to a 6-2 win. Gavin Dempsey scored a brace for Go With The Flow.

Reigning Champions The Thirtysomething were four points behind The All Blacks entering this series of matches and needed a win this week to keep in touch. However they encountered a resolute Ex Pats team who defended valiantly throughout.  Rob Cameron (Ex Pats) and Shane Donoghue (Thirtysomethings) exchanged goals and with minutes left it looked like a draw was on the cards. However in the dying minutes Jake McAuliffe (Thirtysomethings) had a great effort hit the post and Bill Henry(Ex Pats) made a couple of outstanding saves. Indeed the final score was 1-1.

 Thursday Division 2

Red Bull Anascaul and Panathieastcork entered this series of matches on equal points. Anascaul faced Athletico PTF, who were pre season favourites but have under performed this season. However Athletico were back to their best this week and dominated the match. Ken O Connor was superb for Athletico in the centre and Dave Power and Eoin Barrett scored two fine goals to give the Friars walk lads a commanding 2-0 lead. Brendan O Connor narrowed the deficit to one but Athletico held on to win 2-1.

Panathieastcork played bottom of the table Men United who were buoyed by their first win the previous week. In a hard fought first half Andy Healy stood out for Panathieastcork. His speed and work rate were the difference between the sides and helped his team to a 2-0 half time lead. Men United reduced the deficit to one when they scored a penalty but almost immediately Panathieastcork responded with two to finish the contest. This win pushed the east Cork lads into a three point lead.

Sons of Pitches kept their title challenge alive with a fine 3-1 win over Big Test Icles. Donagh Tarrant was in great form for the winners and scored two excellent goals. Steve Crowley scored for The Icles.

McCarthy Wins It For The Specials

Thursday Div 2

Donal McCarthy struck his first ever Footy goal for the JT Specials with just 2 minutes left on the clock to complete a magnificent comeback against Men Utd. United who were winning 2-0 at halftime through 2 Joe McCarthy goals were looking comfortable until Stephen Riordain brought the Specials back into the game with a very well taken volley from a very tight angle. Riordain struck again to make it 2-2 before McCarthy scored with a low drive into the bottom corner to seal a great win.

The Garcia brothers were central to the Sons of Pitches 4-2 over Athletico PTF. Jose Garcia scored twice for the Pitches and his brother Diego was also on the scoresheet. Ken O’Connor tried hardest for his side but his man of the match performance was not enough for Athletico.

Dylan O Brien gave a master class in attacking play and finishing as Panatheastcork comprehensively beat Whitfords. O’Brien scored 5 times in a 9-1 drubbing.

Panatheastcork were too quick for Whitfords and had the youth very much on their side.

Big Test Iciles and Red Bull Anascaul drew 2-2 in an excellent hard fought game. A brace from Scott Stanley for Iciles earning his side a well deserved draw. His equalising goal was a great shot from 12 yards

Thursday Div 1

The All Blacks went top of this division with a well deserved 4-1 over the Ex-Pats. Ezy FC and Thirtysomethings drew 2-2 which suited the All Blacks. Expect a few twists and turns in this league yet with all 5 top teams capable of beating each other.

The ThirthySomethings were 2 nil up through goals from Luca and Killian Deasy,

and with their experience should have seen this one out. But 2 well taken goals by Andrew Daunt were the highlight in a great 2^nd half comeback by Ezy FC.

Rob Healy excellent centre forward play had a big role to play for the All Blacks as they overcame the Ex Pats. Niall Murphy was also excellent for the winners and if they can hold this side together could secure their first Footy title.

Go with the Flow had a walkover against the Hooligans, but the Flow did play a friendly against Wednesday Division 1 leaders Booze Crew. The Crew were too strong in a rather one sided affair where Connor Meade and Ian Stapelton were best for the Crew.

Tools And Crew Draw

Wednesday Div 1

Game of the week was the clash between 2^nd and 3^rd, the Booze Crew and The Tools. This high tempo game had lots of high quality players on show. It ended in a very fair 3-3 draw. Michael Doody was best for the Tools and his team mate, the pacey Colin Hammond always looked dangerous, while the very attack minded play of Connor Mede Ian Stapelton for the Crew were a constant threat for the Tools. Barry Clinton produced a great header from a throw in to equalise for the Crew with a few minutes left.

David Daly played the game of his life when he scored all 6 goals for the Chancers as they came from 2-0 down to win 6-3. All 6 goals came in the 2^nd half, the 2^nd being the pick of the bunch after some quick interplay with Kevin Wilmot.

Cuban Priests stay a point ahead at the top after a walkover against Far From Ath. Their game on the 25^th of July will have a big bearing on where the Title ends up. Tools eyes will be watching closely and they will be hoping for a draw here.

Wednesday Div 2

This Division is hotting up nicely with the first 3 teams all on 16 points. Douglas Mortgage and Balaga Tonga produced a 4-4 thriller, much to the satisfaction of CUH who overcame Nualight to go top.

Cian O Brien scored a hatrick for CUH, who played the counter attacking game to a tee, after they had conceded lots of early possession to Nualight. Kieran Buckley and Stephen Nolan did well for Nualight, but their side lacked penetration when attacking.

Eric Cotter produced a late goal for his hatrick and a deserved share of the spoils for Douglas Mortgage. Balaga Tonga’s Philip Cotter who ran the game in midfield, was the best player on the pitch for the hour.

Hit & Miss, should not be discounted as contenders as they are only 2 points off the leaders. They had a tough 2-2 draw with the fast improving Novartis side. Jurgen Bukowski again impressive for Hit or Miss.

The Baggios who a further point back, easily dispatched the Avengers, with Darragh O’Regan scored 5 times.

Wednesday Div 3

Sub Standard Liege continued their rich vein of form as they easily ousted Real Soso Bad 5-0. Patrick Coleman and goal machine James Mealy were tops for Liege. Mealy now has 27 goals after only 8 games. Real Soso were unlucky early in the game as they hit the post and the crossbar when the game was 0-0.

Dynamo Tonduff had a 5-1 win over Lennons Lemmons. The more organised team coming out on top. Ian Crowley and Deccie O Callaghan who scored a brace were best for Tonduff. The Lemmons were caught on the break too many times with little cover in defence.

Reardons RC moved off the bottom of the table with a good win over FC Coping Badly. The highlight of this game was the superb volley by Martin Halahan for FC Coping as well as the outstanding individual display by Eoghan Killcommyns for Reardons.

The Average Joes are just 2 points off of the top of the table, continued their excellent season with a 5-2 win over Crystal Fallace. Eric Montgomery and Brian Gilhooley both scored twice for the Joes. 

Thirties Win Top Of Table Clash

Thursday Division 1

The top of the table clash between the All Black and The Thirtysomethings started at a blistering pace. Within a couple of minutes Niall Murphy bagged a goal for the Blacks before Luka responded for the Thirtysomethings.  Both teams had numerous chances but it was the Thirties who converted and with twenty minutes remaining they were in control with a 3-1 lead. However when Vinnie Motherway scored a splendid second for the Blacks the momentum was with the Rochestown men. In spite of dominating for the last ten minutes the Blacks couldn’t break down the Thirties defence and ended up on the wrong side of the 3-2 score line.

The Ezy, Go With The Flow encounter was a match of two halves. The first half was an even affair with few but equal opportunities for both sides. Steve Dwyer broke the deadlock after 20 minutes for EZY with a well taken goal but this is all that separated the sides at half time. The second half was dominated by EZY who scored four more goals and went on to win 5-0.

Thursday Division 2

The Whitfords, Big Test Icles match was a very close, hard fought even encounter played in a very sporting manner. It was the Whitfords who scored first when Jesper Pederson scored a super goal. However Vincent Twomey scored an unforgettable goal to equalise with a tremendous strike right into the top corner. With time running out it was the Whitfords who were pressing for a winner but against the run of play Scott Stanley scored for Big Test to give his team their most impressive result so far and to knock The Whitfords off of their perch on the top of the table.

Two other title contenders squared off when Panathieastcork took on Red Bull Anascaul. Both defences dominated through out with neither side creating many opportunities, The sides were deadlocked at 0-0 at half time. It was Mark Moynihan who scored the only goal of the contest to earn a precious three points for his side and move them to the top of the table,

Ken O Connor was outstanding for Athletico PTF in their clash with Men United. This was another hard fought match during which the skill and speed of O Connor was the difference between the sides. Adrian Noonan gave the men from Friars Walk an early lead with a well taken goal.  Some great feats of goal keeping by Nick Duff in combination with the cross bar kept Men United in the hunt. However a super goal by Jan Ostadoff on the stroke of half time earned Athletico a 2-0 lead. Neither team scored in the second half so the final score was 2-0 in favour of Athletico.
