Slick Trotters Off To Perfect Start

Footy Report Wednesday 22^nd May

Wed Div 1

Trotters Traders lead the way after 2 games of the Summer Footy Season with 2 wins out of 2. They demolished the Thirty Somethings on week 1 and then ground out an excellent 3-1 win over a strong Booze Crew side on week 2. A late Eoin Stephens goal sealed the points as the Booze Crew pushed forward in search of an equaliser only to be caught on the counter by the Traders. This Slick Traders side push the ball around well and it will take a good side to finish above come mid August.

The Sleazy Lemmons up from Division 2 are more than holding their own with two wins out of two also and are behing the Trotters on goal difference.

ABCDE FC who hail from Cobh drew 4-4 with the Thirty Somethings in a classic footy affair. This game was end to end, with a draw being a fair result. Both keepers were the best players on the pitch but Niall Kerrigan shaded the man of the match with some excellent late saves that secured a point for the Somethings.

CSKA Tongo had too much in the tank for Racing Club with Philip Cotter Joe Dempsey and John Crean in top form and if they can keep a settled side, they should find themselves at the right end of the table come August.

Wed Div 2

Sliabh na mBan and Fritzl Palace both got off to good starts with 2 wins out of 2.

Na mBan had 2 comprehensive victories over Footy newcomers Bayern Neverlosin and Douglas Mortgage and look like early season favourites. They have an experienced team with the industrious John Browne and the very skilful Paul Tierney running their midfield.

Fritzl Palace who have a few changes to their side for the Summer are also looking good and will push them all the way. They had an excellent 6-3 win over the Duffers, with Pat Crotty and Phil Canty in excellent form.

Dynamo Tonduff and FC Coping Badly drew out a really tough game, 1-1 being the half time score, but with with both defences on top in the 2^nd half no scores were added.

Bayer Neverlosin have a few decent players, will take a few weeks to settle before they should pick up a few points. The Duffers have also improved their side this Summer and should test a lot of teams in this division.

Douglas Mortgage and AC Standard drew 6-6 in a brillant game, easily the best game on week one. These sides are experienced Footy Campaigners and should be challenging for honours also.

Special Champions

Thursday Division 3

The JT Specials were crowned division 3 Champions last Thursday night for the first time in their 8 years of playing in the Footy leagues.

They drew 2-2 with their arch rivals this season, the Flying Column in their final game to clinch the title. This game was closely fought as both sides had a chance of honours going into this top of the table clash with the Column being a point behind.

The first half was a tense affair with both sides concentrating more on not conceding, but with a draw being no good to the Flying Column they pushed on in the 2^nd half leading to a more open game. With 15 minutes to go the Specials broke out of defence and Dan Hegarty pounced to steer the ball home from a very tight angle to put them one up. Hegarty who had a fine season for the Specials in attack, struck again 5 minutes later with a similar breakaway goal. But the Column battled on, as they do so well and Ciaran McAtran scored 2 late goals to make it a very tense last few minutes. Rob Carpenter ancaptain Steve Riordain were best for the winners, while MVP winner Alan Mullery and McArtan were best for the losers.

Both Men Utd and the Sons of Pitches finsihed off the season with 5-1 victories over the Whitfords and Balaga Tongo respectively.

The younger United side were faster to the ball all evening over the veteran Whitfords who were short a few of their regular players on the night. Danny O Driscoll and Sean O Connor controlled the midfield for Men Utd and they also had Jason Lake in tremendous form in defence

The Sons of Pitches were too strong and more organised than Balaga Tongo and ran out easy winners. Frank Carley scored a hatrick for the Pitches and Michael Deasy was again the Pitches best player.

EZY Achieve "Perfect Season"

Thursday Div 1  

 EZY FC made Footy history with the first ever Perfect Season, a tremendous achievement in winning 14 games out of 14. However their final hurdle was not an easy one, as they relied on a last minute John Daly goal to beat an excellent Oxford internationals side and coming from behind to win 3-2. EZY were a little lucky as their equaliser to make it 2-2 was an own goal. But EZY pushed forward in search of the much sought after winner and were rewarded when Daly pounced on a loose ball to send his teammates wild with delight. Oxford did very well in their maiden Footy season and had had some excellent talent in their side especially in Conor Hawes and Joe Kinsella. Brian Lyons was excellent again for EZY and deservedly picked up the MVP award. Polish man Sebsatian Oziomek also made Footy history as he won the Golden Boot award with an incredible 39 goals in 14 matches. An incredible record in the top division. The previous record was held by another foreign player Chen Changyou from China whose 34 goals record has stood for 4 years, but was in a lower division.

Thursday Div 2  “The Alan Jordan Memorial Cup” 

 Champions Net Busters marked their last game with another convincing win over Mount Oval and picked up the Alan Jordan Memorial Cup.  Mount Oval had a lot of possession but were caught on the counter by Dave McCarthy, Stephen Stromsoe and Paul Sexton several times, who had the quick break tactic down to a tee. Goalkepper Conor McDowell who had a fabulous season, won the MVP award and Paul Sexton won the Golden Boot with 29 goals, making it a clean sweep for the Net Busters.
Apple Exiles marked their last game with a narrow 3-2 win over O'Higgins, with Mark Kirwin being the Exiles best player for the 2nd week in succession.
The Jager Bombers finished their season on a high as they won last 4 games on the trot, their latest victims being the Chancers, beating them 4-3. The Bombers needed a while to settle into Footy but seem to have come to grips with the pace of the game and have become more organised in defence which should stand to them for future seasons.
The Dragons who finished in 2nd place, also came from behind to see off Cork Celtic, with poacher Fiachra O'Driscoll  scoring 5 times in a 6-2 win.

Thursday Division 3

 This division goes down to the wire with the top two teams with a chance of honours going into the final week. The JT Specials and the Flying Column both had convincing wins over Men Utd and Balaga Tongo respectively and must play each other in a winner take all clash this coming Thursday. The Specials go into the final week a point ahead and as a result of this are slight favourites over the Column. Both teams have huge respect for each other having being playing in the Footy leagues for several years and with neither team ever having won honours. May the best team win !
3rd  placed Sons of Pitches were back to their best as they convincingly beat the Whitfords.
All Games in this league are at 7pm this Thursday.

Wednesday Div 2

 The Lemmons were crowned champions of division 2 as Sub Standard Liege faltered at the final hurdle against the FC Coping Badly. Donal Lennon's Lemmons took advantage of this by beating bottom placed AFC Tesco comfortably and in doing so won their first Footy league honours. Alan Greaney scored 6 times for the Lemmons and scooped the Golden Boot award.
Sub Standard came up short against a resolute Coping Badly side and lost 4-3 when they needed a win. Bernard Parkes and Martin Hallahan were best for Coping Badly who fully deserved victory on the night. Patrick Coleman and James Mealy tried hardest for Liege but could not break down the Coping defence who had keeper Robbie Doyle in tremendous form.
Rosies came from behind to beat rivals the Duffers 4-3 in a closely fought encounter.
Fritzl Palace also won by the odd goal, beating AC Standard 3-2 in another tight game.

Wednesday Div 1

 The Kids picked up another league title, in a league that was won a few weeks ago when they beat their close rivals the Bailey. Colin Hammond who was their top scorer picked up the Most Valuable player award who also had Michael Doody nominated for MVP.
Racing Club overcame the  3rd placed Thirty Somethings  4-2. The Somethings fought back from 4-0 to make a game of it in the 2nd half but Racing looked like they took their foot off the gas and let their opponents back into the game. Another high energy performance from Racing's Edward Noonan and Jason Lake along with 4 goals from 42 year old Jurgen Bukowski was enough to see off the Somethings in the first half. Darragh O Regan who enjoyed another excellent season, scored 3 times for Crystal Phallus and finished just a few goals shy of Bukowski who picked up the Golden Boot award. Racing's Padriag McGovern also had another high scoring season, another impressive tally as he missed several games through injury.
The Bailey had Ben Ryan and Ronan Sherman in good form as they cruised to victory over bottom place Sliabh na mBan in a very casual and open game .

Perfect Season Not an EZY Challange

Thursday Division 2

The Net Busters were crowned division 2 champions with a week to spare as they cruised to victory over last seasons division 3 champions O'Higgins FC. Their captain and manager Damien Byrne will be the first man to lift the Alan Jordan Memorial Cup. Their chief rivals the Dragons lost to bottom placed Jager Bombers thus handing the title to the Net Busters. The energetic Dave McCarthy who has been brilliant all season for the Champions was the main man in their dismantling of O'Higgins FC. John Sexton who was the steadying influence in midfield this season was also in top form. The best team undoubtedly won the league as they definitely had a very good balance to their side this season. With an excellent goal keeper, a strong defence, plenty of energy in midfield and a brilliant finisher in Paul Sexton at centre forward.

The Jager Bombers had a comprehensive over the Dragons and are now only a point adrift from Cork Celtic at the bottom. Alan Evans was The main Bomber as he hit the net 5 times, showing some clinical finishing. Omer Mercier also scored an impressive header for the Bombers who had too much in the tank for a tired looking Dragons outfit.

The Chancers came from a goal down to win 4-3 against Cork Celtic in a highly entertaining game. Defender Jason O'Connell was best for the Chancers who have improved dramatically over the last few weeks, but lost some bad games earlier in the season and might have been contenders otherwise.

Barry O Sullivan pounced late on to score the winner.

Apple exiles were too strong for Mount Oval and had a 5-1 win . Newcomer for Apple Mark Kirwin scored a brace for the Exiles and got the man of the match.

Thursday Division 3

The Flying Column and the JT Specials played 2 games last week, the first of which was against each other in a Footy Classic. Rob Carpenter scored 2 beautiful headers to put the Specials 2-0 up and looking comfortable. But The Column showed their tremendous spirit and were driven on by MVP nominee Alan Mullery in midfield and Ray O'Regan in defence. The same post saved the Specials twice in quick succession, as O'Regan and then Mullery were desperately unlucky with two excellent strikes from 20 yards. Father and son duo Donagh and Ciaren McArtan combined as McArtan senior finished Juniors cross after an excellent left wing run. The Column piled on the pressure in the 2^nd half only to be held until the final minute as Mullery struck for a cracking equaliser. Then Dan McCarthy scored his most important Footy goal with a low deflected drive from a tight angle with only seconds remaining to send his side wild with delight.

Men Utd had an comprehensive win over the Column the following evening who gave everything they had the night before. Sean O Connor scored all 4 goals for Utd and gave a wonderful performance in doing so.

3^rd placed Sons of Pitches seem to be lacking some creativity in their midfield as their season comes to a conclusion but still have a chance of honours if they win both their remaining game as the Specials and The Column must go head to head again in the final game of the season. The Specials made up for their heart wrenching loss the night before as they narrowly beat the Pitches 4-3. Dan Hegarty was best for the Specials and scored with a wonderful volley, flicking the ball over the defenders head before crushing the ball to the net.

The golden oldies the Whitfords beat Balaga Tongo 6-2, and used all their experience to beat this young Tongo side. Brothers Jack and Harry Russell scored 5 of their sides goals and showed their younger opponents how to finish in front of goal.

Thursday Division 1

Footy's first perfect season is the latest challenge for EZY FC who have 13 wins out of 13. But they are up against it in their final game as Oxford Internationals should be well up for the challenge after an impressive rookie season. Oxford had a 11-7 win over Far From Ath in a very open game. Conor Hawes was most impressive for his side a scored a hatful of goals at centre forward.

Champions EZY FC had too much pace and power for the Booze Crew and gave them a lesson in finishing. OS Naventages also had too much football in their side for an under strength All Blacks team and had a comfortable 8-4 win.

Drink Team also hammered their opponents KFC. MVP nominee Peter Perdas was again excellent for this Polish side who are a joy to watch in possession of the ball. Sebastain Oziomek scoring 6 times for his side bring his seasons tally to a Footy record of 35 goals with 1 game still to come.

Kids Close in on Another Footy Title

Wednesday Division 1
The eagerly anticipated showdown between The Kids and The Bailey did not disappoint and was a very high tempo game played with huge intensity by both teams. The Kids needed to win as they were a point behind the Bailey with only 2 games left and both teams expecting to win their remaining games. This was perhaps the difference between the 2 sides as The Kids seemed to want it more and they never left The Bailey settle on the ball. Oisin McGrath was exellent for the Kids at centre forward and held up the ball very well and contributed with 2 goals. Ronan Sherman gave hope to the Bailey who upped their game in the 2nd half. But Colin Hammond's excellent finish provided his sides third goal to seal 3 very important points.
Sliabh na mBan and CUH played out an very entertaining 3-3 draw. Joe McAulliffe scored na mBan deserved equaliser and he was his sides best player on the night. Cathal O'Sullivan scored a brace for CUH and Shane Fitzgerald also gave an excellent performance in midfield for the Wilton Boys.
Edward Noonan was brilliant for Racing Club as they overcame Chrystal Phallus 7-3. Noonan seemed to be everywhere, making numerous interceptions and driving his side into attack. MVP nominnee Jurgen Buwoski scored 4 times for Racing, the first one being a tremendous volley after only 2 minutes. Fellow MVP nominee Darragh O'Regan was again Phallus's best player and again scored a hatrick.

Wednesday Division 2
With 2 games left this division looks like it will be down to the wire as the 4 main contenders all had good wins to keep their respective title hope alive. Sub Standard Liege who won a very tight game with Rosies and gained 3 vital points to stay top. Lemmons brought AC Standards winning streak to and end and FC Coping Badly left it very late to beat the Duffers, depending on a last minute free kick by John O'Brien to keep in the chasing pack. The very organised Fritzl Palace also stayed in the hunt with a win over bottom placed AFC Tesco.
Sub Standard Liege got off to a slow start against a Rosies outfit that seemed really up for the challange of playing the league leaders. Gus Bowen was excellent for Rosies and scored a brace to put them into a 3-1 lead. Pat Coleman and Kevin Heelan both also scored twice for Liege who improved in the 2nd half to clinch the points. Their last game of the season with Coping Badly looks like it will be huge game with the 2nd placed Lemmons waiting in the wings hoping for a draw. Alan Greaney showed all his qualities in his performance for The Lemmons scoring 3 times in their 6-3 win over AC.
Seamus Daly was brilliant for Palace and ran the game from a deep midfield position against Tesco. Tesco have some very skilful players in their side and showed some neat passing moves but poor finishing left them down, and Palace won comfortably 5-2 in the end with late Dan Twomey and Joe Culloty goals.  


Thursday Division 2
Top of the table clash between the Net Busters and the Dragons was another excellent game, with the Net Busters winning a tight battle 7-5. Two outstanding indiviudal performances was difference between these two teams. The clinical finishing of Paul Sexton was most impressive as he scored an incredible 5 times and he was too hot for the Dragons defence. Conor McDowell was brilliant in goal for the Net Busters and made some oustanding saves to keep the Dragons at bay. Shaun Jordan and Rory Walsh were best for the Dragons and tried really hard but they were always chasing the game having gone behind to 2 early goals.

Column Back in the Hunt

^{Thursday Division 3}

^{The Flying Column are back in the title race after a fine win over the Sons Of Pitches. The column who were missing their best player in Ciaren McAtran pulled out their best display of the season beating the Pitches 4-2. Alan Mullery worked tirelessly in midfield for the Column but their hero on the night was French man Fabrice Fortune. With the score 0-0 at halftime, the Column knew they had to go for all 3 points with games running out and were rewarded with a great headed goal from Fortune. He went on to score 2 more in quick succession. William O'Brien and an own goal got the battling Pitches back into the game but Conor O'Mahony sealed the 3 points with his sides 4th. The Column are now just a point off the leaders, the JT Specials who lost to Whitfords and so they should look forward with confidence when they play them next week. Whitfords also had their best display of the season when they toppled the Specials 3-0. Billy Stewart scored twice and James Hamilton once in a game where the Specials never got into their stride. Stewart's 2nd goal was a wonderful solo effort and the highlight of this game. MenUtd narrowly beat Balaga Tonga 4-3 on Thursday and then did likewise against Whitfords 6-5 in 2 great games. Jason Lake showed what an excellent defender he has become and was in top form in both ties. Josh King scored 2 very good goals for Tongo and was unfortunate to be on the losing side.}

^{Damien Kennedy was also excellent between the Sticks for Tongo and kept the score very respectable. Bernard Parkes scored three 2nd half goals and was top man for Utd, scoring with a late free kick with the sides tied at 5-5. Gavin Rosser showed all his experience for Whitfords and his  use of the ball was excellent. The lead in this tie changed many times before Parkes pounced with his late strike.}

^{Thursday Division 2 “The Alan Jordan Memorial Cup”}

^{It was a good night for leaders the Net Busters who opened up a two point lead on the Dragons who only managed a draw with Apple Exiles. The very lively Dave McCarthy was best for the Net Busters who took advantage of the Chancers being a man down for the first 15 minutes going into a 3-0 lead. However when The Chancers got their 7th man on the pitch they out performed the Netbusters for at least an half an hour and tied the match at 3-3. However they seemed to run out of steam and Stephen Stromsoe and McCarthy added 2 late goals seal 3 vital points. Apple were unlucky not to beat the 2nd placed Dragons, as they conceded a late equaliser to draw 3-3 and a share of the spoils. Shaun Jordon with the all important late effort. Rory Walsh was excellent for the Dragons as was Jarrin Hoopman for the Exiles scoring twice. It was a bad night for Cork Celtic who played 2 games in the one night but losing them both. They were comprehensively beaten by O'Higgins FC and then went down to Mount Oval 3-1 after going a goal in front. The Celtic legs tired as the game wore on and Mark Hackett capitalised scoring two 2nd half goals for the Oval.} 

Thursday Division 1

The fat lady is warming up her voice after EZY FC beat their main rivals Drink Team 6-3 in a top of the table clash. Ezy did not have as much possession as their Polish rivals but were more direct in their approach and looked more dangerous going forward. They also defended very impressively throughout the game. Steve Dwyer gave a powerful performance in midfield for EZY and Brian Lyons also making a major contribution. Justin Banks made some great saves in goal for EZY when the game was tied at 3-3. But Ezy's top man on the night was John Daly who was excellent in defence and scored with a great strike after a poor clearance to put his side 4-3 in front and they never looked back. Peter Perdas and Marcin Glyda were best for Drink Team who seemed to overplay the passing game at times.

Oxford Intl overcame the Portuguese lads OS Naventages 5-3 in a very exciting game. Maurice Shannon scoring the pick of these 8 goals. Conor Hawes again excelled for Oxford.

The All Blacks came from 4-1 down at half time to win 5-4 against Far From Ath. Donagh Dwyer with 2 late goals to seal the the points for All Blacks. John Doherty was top man for Far From, who showed seen out this game but showed a lack of urgency in the final 10 minutes which cost them dearly.

The Booze Crew had their best win of the season so far as they beat Kitteringham FC 8-3 in another very open game. Kevin Willmott was star man for the Boozers scoring an impressive 5 times. Dean Dunlea was best for KFC.

The Bailey and The Kids Stay on Course for Showdown

Wednesday Div 1

The Bailey narrowly overcame Racing Club to stay top and 3 points ahead of their rivals The Kids. An under strength Racing Club made them work hard for the points, but some poor goalkeeping gifted The Bailey with 2 of their 4 goals, but they did look like they could up it a gear if they had too. Stephen McCarthy and Stephen O'Donovan did well in midfield for the Bailey but Ben Ryan stood out in defence and found some lovely long range passes. Jurgen Buwoski scored a brace for Racing and always looked dangerous.

The Kids produced their best display of the season as they totally outclassed Crystal Phallus, playing some beautiful football in the process. Michael Doody and Oisin McGrath were in great for form the Kids and contributed 3 of their 8 goals. Colin Hammond brought his seasons tally to 21 goals with a hatrick. Again Darragh O'Regan was Phallus's best player and scored their only goal.

Game of the evening went to CUH and CSKA Tongo. CSKA coming out on top in a most entertaining game.Shane Fitzgerald got the man of the match and showed some excellent skill for CUH but was still on the losing side. Martin Dunlea and Joe Dempsey both scored twice for CSKA who were more clinical in front of goal.

Wednesday Division 2

Top of the Table clash between Sub Standard Liege and the Lemmons was as expected a tight game that could have gone either way with 5 minutes to go but the Lemmons pulled away to win 5-2, with 3 late goals. Alan Greaney was in tip top form and was too hot to handle for Liege. Bryan Lyons was also excellent for The Lemmons who are now level on points and goal difference with Liege with 4 games to go. Patrick Coleman tried hardest for Sub Standard who had James Mealy and Phil Wade on the scoresheet.

AC Standard continued their winning streak with their 4th win in a row with a 2-0 win over Rosies. One of Standards most consistent players this season Eamonn Kelleher was again on the scoresheet along with Tom Dempsey who got the man of the match. 

FC Coping Badly had a rather easy 9-2 win over AFC Tesco. John O'Brien (4), Robbie Doyle and Damien Murphy contributed the most to this one sided affair. 

Thursday Division 2

The top 2 teams the Dragons and the Net Busters are running away with this division after they both won again. Only Goal difference separates these 2 sides, who are both well organised and its hard to pick a winner here at this stage. The Dragons dispatched O'Higgins FC in horrendous conditions last Thursday evening while The Net Busters beat the Jager Bombers on Monday night, after most of last Thursdays fixtures were called off due to the bad weather. Tim Crowley was brilliant in defence for the Net Busters and was first to every loose ball and had his defence well organised. This organisation was sadly lacking in the Bombers side who leaked some poor goals after poor defensive mistakes. Paul Sexton and Dave McCarthy capitalised the most and both scored 3 a piece for the Busters. 

The Dragons had too much pace in their side for O'Higgins FC and stayed more focused in the dreadful conditions to see out a 4-0 win. Rory Walsh was best for the Dragons who also had Donal Flanagan in good form in goal. The Dragons and the Net Busters go head to head on the 4th of April in a game that is sure to decide the destination of the Division 2 trophy
