Wednesday
Division 1
Racing Club produced
their best performance of the season as they beat a strong CUH side 7-2. It was
a tighter game than the scoreline suggests, but Racing seemed to want the
points more from the kick off as they were the first to every ball. Racing
defender Jason Lake who has improved so much as a player over the years in
Footy was again in brilliant form and scored a wonderful individual solo effort
in to equalise a Brian Crowley opener for CUH. Edward Noonan and Pedar Horgan
in the Racing midfield never left this good footballing CUH side settle on the
ball and pounced all the 50/50 balls. The very skilful Footy newcomer Jason
Sexton was always a threat for CUH but Racing took their chances well and
deserved the valuable 3 points.
Leaders CSKA Tongo
also had a very valuable win as they beat the Booze Crew 6-3, to remain 2
points clear of Racing, who they have to play in the last game of the season.
Philip Sweetman was back to his best, producing another master class in
finishing, scoring 5 of their 6 goals, bring his total in 11 games to an
incredible 29 goals.
Hit or Miss had a
narrow win over Fritzl
Palace . Seamus Daly did
not deserve to be on the losing side was excellent for Palace and led their
fight to comeback after falling 3 goals behind, with 2 of the goals being og’s.
Baggios overcame
Glasgow Septic in another game that ended up being close after the Baggios led
5-0 at halftime. Ronan Sherman was man of the match for Baggios scoring once and
setting up 2 others. Mark O Connor and Conor McArdle were on the mark for
Septic with a brace each.
Wednesday
Division 2
FC Coping threw a spanner in the works in this division as they beat
leaders AC Standard who now occupy 2nd spot. John O’Brien was the
star man for Coping Badly once again scoring a hatrick, the first goal being
the most important as it was just before the half time whistle. Bill Henry had
made some excellent saves for Standard to keep the game tight, but the gaps
appeared in their defence as they pushed for the equaliser and O’Brien
capitalised for Coping.
Crystal Fallace beat Rosies 4-1 to go top for the first time this season
and must now be favourites to win the title with 4 games left. Daniel Lynch was
top man for Fallace who were missing the reliable defender Denis Cullinane
through injury. Steve Kelly scored a brace for Fallace, while Colin Murphy
scored for Rosies.
The Avengers won 2 games in a row, beating the Lemmons 5-3, jumping off
the bottom on the table in the process. Joey Herrity and Dean Long were on the
mark for this quickly improving Avengers side who are working hard in recent
weeks, tracking back to defend when needed and thus improving their points
tally.
